Professor Zuhal YAPICI
is a Professor of Neurology and Child Neurology in Istanbul University
Faculty of Medicine.
She is a graduate of Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, Istanbul University. In 1997, she started to work
as a neurology specialist at Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical Faculty, Department of Neurology,
Division of Child Neurology. After completing her subspeciality training in Child Neurology, she
became an associate professor in 2006 and professor in 2012.
Professor Yapıcı is at present the
head of the division.
In 2018, Doctor Zuhal Yapıcı established the 'Translational Neurodevelopmental Medicine PhD
Program' to be carried out under the Department of Neurology, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. In
the same year, she established the 'Unit of Tuberous Sclerosis' in Istanbul University, and she was
appointed as unit coordinator. She has been a member of the "Journal of European Paediatric
Neurology" editorial board, starting from 2022.
Her main academic areas of interest are childhood movement disorders, diseases with NBIA, and
neurocutaneous syndromes. Doctor Zuhal YAPICI has more than 120 international articles.
On March 16, 2023, Professor YAPICI established the "Turkey NBIA Study Group" with the support
of the Turkish Parkinson Disease Association. She has been conducting clinical research and
doctoral theses on NBIA for the last 11 years.
